The 2000’s

 

1099 - 2000

Starting the decade in Decoite, Ross Osbourne was the president from the 2000/01 to 2002/03 season. Under his leadership combined with Matt Sumo Stickland and Tony Tacka James we won the premiership and went straight back in Knox Tavern.

 

2000 - 2002

A change of Coach saw Dave Brodtmann again at the helm. The team finished 5th that year. Craig Brown had an staler season and took 44 wickets.

In 2002 we sadly lost Tony ‘Tacka’ James, Life Member, Past captain/coach, chairmen of selectors, committeeman and stalwart of the club. It was a loss that shook the club and an award was started and named after him. The Tacka James Medal was born and there have been many proud winners over the years the first being a three way tie with Brett Howlett, Dave Stewart and Stewart Murray.

Adam Luckman won the medal 3 times and there has been no prouder dual winner than his son Leigh.

 

2003 - 2004

Greg Carey took over as President for the next 3 seasons. The football and cricket clubs came together and formed a sub committee to work with council that produced the Batterham Park Improvement Plan. That has since produced the new Bottom Ground, new Change rooms, Cricket storeroom, an extra training net, lights on the bottom oval and now the new top oval. It was also the start of the Adam Luckman era who coached the club for 5 seasons and was one of the best bats this club has seen. The 5XI took out the premiership under the captaincy of Karl ‘Gundi’ Winters.

It was also the year we sadly lost Sandra Davis a great support of the vets who taught us how to produce great afternoon teas which the Club is still renowned for!

 

2004 - 2005

The cricket club decided to change to the Huntsmen. The 1XI played in the Semi Final but were cut down by injuries and lost that game. Adam Luckman made a 131* and Heathy 126*, we also had a rare feat with the Lee brothers (Gary, Darren and Josh) scoring tons in the same season throughout the grades.

Adam Luckman won the association batting average with 544runs at an average of 64.

 

2005 - 2006

Greg ‘Nuggett” Best took over as president for the next 3 years and a new on field approach was taken. Andrew Huntington was named coach for the season and Adam Luckman was named captain. Andrew had played Victoria 2XI cricket and brought with him a wealth of knowledge to the young group of cricketers. In the 1XI Adam Heath got another ton with 136 and it saw the up and coming fast bowler Shane ‘Badger’ Underhill taking 26 wickets for the season.

 

2007 - 2008

The club went back to a single Captain Coach in Adam Luckman once more. While it wasn’t a great year on the field the club was getting primed for a new oval and renovations to the clubrooms. A new recruit Cal Sheen who brought enthusiasm and knowledge to the team ended up winning the club champion. The 3XI and 4XI both made the finals but couldn’t bring home the premiership.

 

2008 - 2009

Stewart Rodie was appointed Coach and although the year was disappointing we saw a group of young players start to get their consistency in the 1XI with more than half the team being under 24. Matt Heskes developed as a player and took 28 wickets for the season and Jayden Turcinovic won the batting average. Both Daniel Rundle (109) and Jayden Turcinovic (111 *) scored tons that year.
